Capitalizing on Confusion
California - In 2008, we wrote a post (See: Each Humane Society is a Separate and Distinct Organization) concerning this issue. Most persons are unaware that national animal groups like the ASPCA are not affiliated with nor serve as an umbrella organization to local SPCA groups. In a recent complaint, the State Humane Association of California alleges unfair and deceptive fundraising practices by the ASPCA, which harm local SPCA and humane groups.
The State Humane Association of California, on May 3, 2011, filed a complaint with the Office of the Attorney General against the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), alleging unfair and deceptive fundraising practices which harm local humane societies and SPCAs. The complaint alleges that ASPCA capitalizes on and intentionally reinforces the widely held, mistaken belief that it is a parent or umbrella organization to the thousands of humane societies and SPCAs across the country...
Most of us are familiar with the ASPCA’s commercials featuring Grammy-award-winning musician, singer, and songwriter Sarah McLachlan and comedian Dan Aykroyd. The commercials feature heartbreaking images of abused and neglected animals as a backdrop to their compelling plea for donations. However, the commercials do not reveal that the ASPCA is not directly affiliated with any of the thousands of humane societies and SPCAs across the country. - Opposing Views

This is a very fine thing and I wish the State Humane Association well in their efforts to make the public aware of the true nature of the ASPCA.

Officials of the Seattle Humane Society are warning residents that solicitors hired by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) are approaching people on the streets and asking for money that they say will be used to help save the lives of animals in shelters.
Seattle Humane must have had a change of heart as they are now vying for a $100k cash award by the ASPCA (ASPCA $100k Challenge).
Probably so they can traffick shelter fodder produced by the SeaNuttle Pit breeders into Canada…It isn't like the Serengetti up there yet!
One day, these assets will flow to mauling victims just like when the asbestos and tobacco companies finally had their comuppence.
