They Attack and Kill Our Pets
Burlington, NC - James George, says he was walking his daschund named Shorty, when a pit bull attacked the pet. George says the pit bull was on a chain, but the chain was long enough to reach the sidewalk. He says the pit bull bit his dog so badly that a vet would have had to amputate his legs.
Neighbors had to pry the dog off of Shorty, who died before emergency surgery could be done. George says he thinks the owner of the dog that attacked Shorty, and other pit bulls, should be required to keep the dogs behind a fence to prevent attacks on dogs and children. "What is it going to take for the community to step up to the plate and say enough is enough," George said.
Good question. It's legal to own dogs bred to kill animals, but it's illegal to own gators and coyotes.
In a separate attack in North Carolina today, a coyote jumped a family dog named Kiki. Jake Temper, the dog owner's grandson said, "I opened the door and the coyote had the other dog by the neck, the jugular. I went and kicked the coyote and the coyote ran into the bushes." Fat chance a young boy kicking a pit bull would get the pit bull to stop attacking.
Down in Florida, an alligator attacked a 70-pound shepherd-mix. The 9-year-old dog, named Renie, was in a backyard near a canal in Loxahatchee when the alligator attacked. The dog suffered a broken leg in three places and a jaw broken in two. Renie was luckier than Shorty. The owner is taking donations for surgeries here: www.paws2help.org or call 561-712-1911.
