UPDATE 04/02/09: A 49-year-old man was sentenced to 2-4 years in prison for firing a crossbow after a dispute about the breed of a neighbor's dog last June. The neighbor said it was a pit bull; Carlos Lupercio said a Labrador. Lupercio went home, returned with a crossbow pistol and fired at his neighbor, just missing. Lupercio had pleaded no contest to terroristic threats and animal neglect. It's unknown what type of animal Lupercio owned.
06/23/08: Crossbow + Neighbor = Pit Bull
Lincoln, NE - In a recent stroke of insight, DogsBite.org created a new Google Alert with two keywords, "crossbow" and "neighbor." These two words in the same headline undoubtedly point to a pit bull potentially being involved. We were right; here's the first article:
"Wheel-bound Carlos Lupercio, 49, was arguing with a 25-year-old about his dog. The two were arguing about whether a dog was a Labrador retriever or a pit bull. Police said Lupercio went to his home and came back after about 20 minutes. When he returned, the 25-year-old tried to make up with Lupercio. It's then that Lupercio pulled out a crossbow pistol and fired at the man, but he missed and hit a tree. When police arrived, Lupercio still had the crossbow in his hand. He was arrested on charges of making terroristic threats, use of a weapon to commit a felony, discharge of a weapon within city limits, resisting arrest and failure to comply."Related articles:

Here is another news oddity:
Pit mix kills yorkie in a bar fight.
pit nutters will be claiming the yorkie started it.

This one would have made a good Springer episode!
The lesson here is never call a Pit owner's dog one of the "cur" breeds....It is the ultimate insult to them.
Only bona fide pit owners may alter breed id on insurance paperwork and lease agreements!
You have been warned!

I've been to Bar Harbor recently, it has a nice downtown section with shops and restaurants, lots of outside dining, LOTS of people doing the tourist thing. It is also a very dog friendly town with animals allowed in most of the stores. But just because dogs are allowed doesn't mean every dog should be there. My wife and I remarked at just how many dog were clearly uncomfortable in the strange place with so many people, how many dogs seemed untrained or even aggressive, how many dog owners seemed irresponsible. There were also dogs left in cars, barking their heads off or lunging at people walking past. We said to each other this was a recipe for disaster and someone, dog or person, is going to get bit before long.

Hardcore Gamedoggers often refer to non game dogs as "Shit Eaters". Obviously, the neighbor calling lumping this Pit into the "Shit Eater" category merited retaliation. Neighbors need to be more sensitive to their Pit owning neighbors!
