Trunk Protection Duty
Anne Arundel, MD - During a traffic stop yesterday afternoon, Anne Arundel police officers found a pit bull concealed in the trunk of a car, along with drugs and a handgun. We imagine police officers had a freakish surprise upon opening the trunk. Fortunately, no officer was injured in the incident, and the offenders were charged with animal cruelty. Where will pit bull owners place their dogs next to protect their drugs?
"Just before 4 p.m., Southern District officers stopped a vehicle in the 5000 block of Sands Road in Lothian, according to a news release sent today. An investigation revealed the dog, 81.7 grams of crack cocaine, $5,812 in cash and a .357 caliber handgun, police said. The dog was turned over to Animal Control, and the two occupants of the car were arrested. Larry Francis Whittington Jr., 23, of 5497 Sands Road in Lothian, and Darien Michael Maples, 20, of 1582 Alberta Court in Severn, were both charged with felony possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of cocaine, a handgun violation and cruelty to animals, police said."
