St. Paul, MN - A 2-year-old St. Paul boy is receiving rabies shots after he was bitten in the face by a dog. Oscar Sanchez-Christensen was bitten as he sat with his parents at a picnic table in Como Park. His parents say a man and a woman with a cocker spaniel sat next to them. The couple was asked if the boy could pet the dog, but the dog lunged and bit the boy just below the left eye.
The couple disappeared as the boy's father rushed him to a car.Officials had no luck finding the dog, so the boy started receiving rabies shots. His mother says he'll need 18 shots in all, over 21 days. (DogsBite.org understands that the rabies vaccination is given in multiple doses over a number of days, but we have never heard of 18 doses. This could be due to the fact that the victim is a child. If a reader knows more, please leave a comment on this story or contact us directly).
