Model Attacked by Pit Bull
In his latest video, YouTube artist Zupf brazenly points a finger at the facts that matter the most about a pit bull attack: the severe and costly medical trauma the victim suffers, the absolute non-provocation for the attack (in this instance merely walking to her car) and the zealous voice that lies behind the pit bull lobby. The pit bull bite often dismembers and nearly always debilitates the victim. In this attack, the dog tore through her boot, severed a tendon and left bone exposed.
One has to think that the horrific mauling of Henry Piotrowski back in July, which ended up killing him, in addition to the 7 million dollar claim filed against the City of New York on behalf of him, in combination with the violent attacks upon Kamar Reynolds and now Brooke Michelle (and how many others?) that New York will take an honest look at the pit bull problem. For the sake of preventing future victims, new policies need to be developed now.
12/24/08: Woman Recovering After Pit Bull Attack
Staten Island, NY - According to the family, the 21-year-old college student and model who goes by the name Brooke Michelle left her brother's business, WeGotLites at 202 Industrial Loop in Rossville, around 6:30 p.m., before the rest of her family. As she walked to her car, she saw something white with brown spots out of the corner of her eye running in her direction. She mistakenly thought the animals was a cat; it turned out to be a loose pit bull.
The pit bull jumped on the young woman and ripped her jacket. It then latched onto her right foot and tore through her Ugg boot. "I thought after it got my jacket it would run away," Miss Goldstein recalled, sitting in a hospital bed with a thick white bandage around her leg. "It grabbed my foot and it was growling. I started screaming." A family friend, Jay Rodriguez of Sunnyside, who had stopped by to wish them a happy holiday, heard her screaming.
Rodriguez ran downstairs and started hitting the dog with his fist. Once the pit bull let go, it turned on him. A worker at the company threw a pipe to him and Rodriguez started hitting the dog with it. After a few minutes, the dog ran away. Luckily, Rodriguez escaped with only a few bumps and bruises. Brooke, however, was less lucky. "I was lying on my mom's car in pain. I thought I lost a few toes," she said. "I was shaking. I couldn't feel anything from my knee down."
According to a police source, the 123 Precinct responded to the attack. The incident will likely by treated as a civil matter, not a criminal one, the source said. The police department is also in the process of reporting the case to the city Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The Goldstein family believes the dog belongs to the owner of Concrete Depot Corp. located at 16 Derick Ct., near Industrial Loop. The owner could not be reached for comment.
