DogsBite.org - We've gathered a number of pit bull scalping incidents that have occurred since 2008 and placed them into a single blog post. We've included earlier incidents that have arisen during our ongoing research efforts as well. These devastating attacks require documentation so that other researchers, such as doctors and policymakers, can access them. New 5 Year Pediatric dog bite study done by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons:

More than 30 different offending breeds were documented in the medical records. The most common breeds included pit bull terriers (50.9 percent), Rottweilers (8.9 percent), and mixed breeds of the two aforementioned breeds (6 percent)

This boggles the mind. I've read so many accounts, but i'm still taken aback by the enormous number here.

I'm sure a lot of people will be surprised and appalled. This is good work!

I'm so sorry to hear about your wife. I don't think any of the accounts described the extent of her injuries. I hope she is mending as best as can be.

It sounds crazy to not go to a friend's house because they have pit bulls, but this shows that its not.

These are all Million Dollar maulings...you have better chance of sighting a Bigfoot than a Pit Owner with assets/earning potential to cover the medical reconsructive costs.

Dr. Patrick Byrne with Johns Hopkins Hospital -- where Allen is being treated -- speaks frankly about his injuries. "I can't think of a single injury of this nature that was incurred by any other species other than a pit bull or a rottweiler." Due to horrific nature of these bites, surgeons have had to develop new techniques to try to mend them. These procedures are highly expensive and still leave the victim with scars
