San Antonio, TX - On Friday, three pit bulls attacked a man and an Animal Care Services worker after the animals escaped their fenced yard on the northeast side. City officials said El Dorado Elementary School was put on lockdown at one point while the pit bulls were on the loose. Reporters spoke with neighbors who said they feared that the dogs would attack a child.
"The black one attacked. I punched him in the face, and I broke the skin right here," Alex Aldrede said, pointing to his hand. "And then the white one -- I was able to kick him, and (I) jumped in a tree." Aldrede does not think the dogs belong in a neighborhood where there are families and children. The ACS worker, Lisa Norwood, was bitten in the face by one of them.
Two of the three dogs were caught before the end of the school day, but because the third was loose, school officials decided to lock down the facility. Enrique Fuentes, the owner of the pit bulls, apologized to ACS, claiming his dogs had never hurt anyone. He said one of the three dogs recently had puppies, and he said he believes she was trying to protect them.
Breaking through a fence to attack is not protection; it is aggression.Related articles:

"My dogs have never been aggressive -- that's just -- I'm really surprised they attacked anyone, and I'm very sorry," Fuentes said.
This is the Pit Problem in a nutshell...Wonder how much these School Siege lineage pups will bring on the street?

A dog that was "protecting her puppies" would be with her puppies, not on the street attacking passersby and animal control officers. When will the owners of pit bulls stop using this absurd excuse?

Why does the media allow pit owners to make this excuse without calling them on it? They all think they are responsible, they all think their dogs won't hurt anyone. If these people all owned cocker spaniels and golden trievers they wouldn't be in the news at all.
