Dog Attacks Mail Carrier in Lubbock, Texas
Dog Attacks Mail Carrier in TexasLubbock, TX - A mail carrier is recovering after being attacked by a dog Thursday afternoon. The mail carrier was delivering mail when the lab mix jumped over a six foot tall fence and attacked him, severely biting his hand.
The dog is in custody of Animal Services, and a dangerous dog hearing must take place within the next 20 days. Under a new state law it is possible that the dog owner could face jail time.
Lillian's Law, passed in Texas in 2007 formally addresses the argument, "It's the owner not the breed." The law mandates that dog owners face 10 years in prison if their dog severely attacks a person and 20 years if the attack results in death. To our knowledge at DogsBite.org, no one has yet been prosecuted under the new law.
