Pit Bull Owner Dumps Dog on Dad
Des Moines, IA - A local man had to shoot a pit bull type dog this morning when the animal attacked him in his house. According to Des Moines Police, David Day, 43, suffered serious bite injuries to both hands. He was helping his wife off the couch when the dog apparently interpreted the action as an attack on her.
It seems most physical action, including a simple shout will flip the switch on these dogs and send them into "fight" mode.
The dog bit one of Day's hands as he managed to get the dog to another room. The dog escaped from that room and attacked again, biting him on the other hand. The police report says that Day fought with the animal until he finally shot it with a .22-caliber rifle. The dog is presumed to be dead.
Medics from the Des Moines Fire Department were called to the house and treated Day. He declined a trip to the hospital, saying he would seek medical attention later on his own. It turns out, the dog apparently was the property of Day's son; he had been caring for the animal.
Pit bull owners frequently dump their dog on parents, relatives or friends to care for. We can hear the words of the son as he walks out the door, leaving his pit bull with his Dad, "Oh, and Dad, don't believe anyone that suggests my dog is dangerous, that dog wouldn't hurt a fly."
Good thing Dad had a rifle.
Dad, my dog will just lick you to death.
