City Gas Worker Attacked on Duty
Topeka, KS - Two pit bulls attacked a Kansas Gas Service employee sending him to the hospital with injuries. The employee was handing paperwork to residents of a home when two pit bulls came at him from inside the house. The dogs "latched on" to the man's arms. He was taken to a Topeka hospital by American Medical Response ambulance.
Louis Cortez of the Topeka Police Department said, "If this pit bull would have attacked a small child walking to school the child wouldn't have had a chance. The only reason why this gentleman made it through was he was wearing heavy clothing and he was able to fend off the dog until we arrived."
The city of Topeka bans new pit bull ownership and requires existing pit bull owners to have a permit; it's unclear if the owner had such a permit. It's also unclear if the pit bull owner held an insurance policy. The cost of 2 adult pit bulls "latching on" to a man's arm is not cheap. If bones were fractured, the cost easily reach 50,000 dollars. If the victim can't pay, the citizens of Topeka, Kansas will.
This will be an interesting story to watch. You can bet the Topeka police department are investigating these owners.
