Grandfather Uses Sledgehammer to Stop Pit Bull Attack on Grandson
Child Holding LeashSt. Louis, MO - It was recently reported that a 1-year old boy was rushed to a St. Louis hospital after he was mauled by the family's pit bull. As of Thursday night, the toddler was listed in serious condition at Children's Hospital. St. Louis police say his injuries are not life threatening. However, the boy's grandfather, Vab Young, said the child's ear "appeared to be hanging" after the mauling. The attack happened at a home in the 47 hundred block of Lexington.
Young told reporters that the family had been "hanging out" in the backyard. He added that an 11-year old girl had the 8-month old pit bull on a leash at the time of the attack. At first, Young thought the dog was just playing with the child. When asked when he realized something was wrong he said, "I seen the blood. His ear looked like it was hanging." The boy's father wrestled the pit bull off the child, then Young hit the dog more than once with a sledgehammer.
Initially, homicide detectives and the child abuse unit both responded to the scene. But a short time later, police called the incident an accident. No charges are expected to be filed.

Please, we need to start charging families who allow these dogs near children. How many innocent children will die, or be disfigured, before child welfare organizations get involved?

They did get involved! And then they called it an accident.

It was no accident that an 11 year old had the 8 month old dog on a leash, a condition that most municipalities with animal control laws agree is unacceptable. Whoever allowed a child to try to maintain control of the animal, especially around a toddler, should be held criminally liable for child endangerment, both of the 11 year old and the 1 year old.

Thats why the Dog Lobby fights BSL..
The breeder and the customer in this case have no criminal liability. Meanwhile, another litter from this Level 5 maulers breeder is about to hit the street!

Meanwhile "pit bull advocacy groups" including Best Friends Animal Sanctuary are falsely telling people that pit bulls are good with children, and teaching people to set their child up for an attack!
