Another Haverhill Woman Attacked by a Pit Bull
Owner Faces "Fines"Haverhill, MA - A woman was mauled by a large pit bull named Gotti while walking a dog on Powder House Avenue. Kathleen Moge, 45, was taken to Merrimack Valley Hospital for treatment of wounds she received in the attack. She was bitten on the left side of her neck, both arms and in the chest. The pit bull also attacked her dog. Haverhill police Lt. William Leeman said, "She was just out walking the dog and the pit bull came out of its yard and attacked her."
The pit bull, owned by Michael Termini, was taken back into the cellar by Termini's mother after the incident. Later, Animal Control Officer Michelle Hamel took custody of the dog to keep it from attacking other people and to determine whether it has rabies. Termini may face fines for having an unmuzzled pit bull running loose. He could be charged a $100 fine for the first offense and up to $300 for subsequent violations. He may receive additional citations as well.
The City of Haverhill has a pit bull ordinance, but it does not require pit bull owners to carry liability insurance to ensure that victim medical expenses are paid.
