UPDATE 07/31/12: A young child nearly killed in by pit bull last week was taken off life support Sunday. Jasper County Investigator Thad Windham said the child is undergoing treatment at Batson Children's Hospital in Jackson. A social worker said the child's recovery would take a long time. If a veterinarian finds the dog rabies free or there is "not something wrong with it," the attacking pit bull will be returned home. No charges against the dog's owner are expected.
