  1. It is a weird time in American pet-owning. We're rehoming animals which have extremely low pet suitability while systematically dismantling all laws which control dogs and discourage careless ownership. Look at the Florida case, where that doctor is trying to overturn a law about dog bites after his "Lab mix" bit a child.

  2. Colleen, you should put that picture from Facebook full-size. That dog is extremely muscular and that child had no chance.

  3. Watch the landlord get sued — bigtime. Happened here in Tucson. A lawyer-friend won a $500k judgment in a pit bull mauling case. The child lived, but he suffered severe facial injuries.

  4. Thanks, Dogsbite for delving so thoroughly into the tragic circumstances of this child's death.

  5. Absolutely heartbreaking, such a beautiful, radiant girl.

What would she have done in the world? We'll never get to see now.

  6. This is so saddening. All we can do is hope that instances like this give other parents the message that pits are dangerous and untrustworthy and ensure that their children are NEVER let around those monsters.

  7. Thank you all for your comments and support. My name is Mayra and I am Amiyah's mother. I still cannot grasp the reality that my only daughter is no longer able to sing to me, dance with me, draw me beautiful artwork, play the violin, shop with me, and the list goes on and on. I wake up every morning with tears overflowing down my face. This should have never happened to her. The pain I feel is unbearable and indescribable. I ask myself over and over, "Who is responsible for Amiyah's death?" It is unfair that the dog owner may not face any charges yet my precious, sweet, funny, silly, intelligent daughter is gone. No mother should EVER have to bury her child. I have so much on my mind but I will just leave it like this. Again, thank you all. Sleep in peace Amiyah, our sweet "Mimi".

    • I'm so very sorry to read this. It angers me that this happens so frequently to people and it's not stopped. I can't imagine your pain and frustration. I'll pray for you Mayra…Amiyah is in a happy place watching and waiting for you.
