Cuernavaca, Mexico - Police said a 10-year-old boy was killed by his family's dog. Public Safety officer Jose Antonio Lazcano said the pit bull mastiff-mix attacked Diego Arellano after the boy jumped over a wall to get into his house. The boy had apparently forgotten his keys. His mother called the police, who arrived to find the boy lying next to the dog. She gave police permission to shoot the dog before approaching Diego, but the boy was dead by the time they reached him.
Local newspaper El Diario de Morelos said the mother told police the dog had never been aggressive before Saturday's attack.

You wouldn't think they would need permission, but a case like this happened in the US last year. Remember Blanche Brodeur, 76 years old? While her son-in-law was in jail, she agreed to take care of his pit bull. 5 days later, as she tried to feed the dog, the animal killed her.
When first responders arrived, they could not reach Blanch's body. The pit bull that killed her was on a rope long enough to reach anyone who tried to help. It took 18 minutes and a phone call to the jailed dog's owner to get permission to shoot the dog so that responders could safely approach the body. Officials described the scene as gruesome -- the dog had locked down on Blanch's neck and head.
