Winder, GA - As September 4th, 2007 dawned, family members stayed close to Kelly Edwards' hospital bedside. Kelly was attacked by three pit bulls and sustained serious injury to his arms, legs and torso. Kelly said he remembers the attack as he went for his walk that day.
"The small one came out and leaped for me and got me on my side, and I fell. Then, when I was on the ground they were snapping at me and biting me."During the sustained, 10 minute attack, Kelly said he tried his best to fight the dogs off. A neighbor saw the attack and began hitting the dogs with a stick. The neighbor's son rushed out with a gun and shot one of the dog's dead. Edwards said if David Banner hadn't stepped in with a gun, he might be dead. His daughter Kathy said:
"If it had been just a couple more minutes, as much blood as he's lost, we wouldn't have him anymore."Edwards and his daughters hoped he wouldn't need rabies shots and that he'll soon be out of the hospital. They also hoped other dog owners learn from his ordeal and that they need to restrain their dogs. As most victims say after a brutal attack, Edwards added, "It’s bad what happened, but if it had been a child, that child would not have made it."
