FYI: Here's the talking points the dog lobby distributes and uses to fight these sensible laws:

Opposition to a Mandatory Spay/Neuter Ordinance:

* MS/N is unenforceable.

* MS/N doesn't address our animal problems in low income areas.

* MS/N targets responsible pet owners instead of irresponsible pet owners.

* MS/N is unenforceable without door-to-door enforcement which is costly.

* MS/N is not acceptable -- even with exemptions for any reason.

* MS/N means genocide with every dog (male and female) altered.

* MS/N is an Animal Rights Agenda to end all use, breeding and ownership of animals.

* MS/N is a "pet" issue, not a breeder issue.

I'd like to add:

*MS/N causes stock prices to fall for companies who produce euthanization chemicals.

WOW! Backyard breeders (that know how to read the papers) must be going CODE RED! That whole section of the "non recorded" family income is going up in smoke!

I love the quote that "supposedly" speaks to all animals and breeds:

"Far too many backdoor breeders are treating animals in an inhumane way and disrupting communities. Far too many kids fear walking to school. Far too many people have been maimed by animals roaming the streets."

I think councilman Richard Alarcon meant to say:

"Far too many backdoor pit bull breeders are treating animals in an inhumane way and disrupting communities. Far too many kids fear pit bulls walking to school. Far too many people have been maimed by pit bulls roaming the streets."

The word "Pit Bull" should be synomamous with the word "suffer" due to the horrendous conduct of their owners and breeders.

The President of PETCO actually attended the signing ceremony in support of this law. The ProMaulers are now organizing a boycott of PETCO.

I'll be doing some shopping at PETCO now.
