Domestic violence first responders (and organizations dedicated to helping these victims) know more about pit bull owners than you might ever want to believe.
Domestic violence offenders often have abusive, dangerous dogs. It's one more way to scare the hell out of their partner. It's one more way to act as a guard, when the man abuser steps away.
Police and animal control departments often work together in these instances. If a known DA offender has a dangerous dog breed, that information is shared between the two departments. And when police officers are called to respond on such a house, they make SURE animal control is with them.
