San Jose - Pit bull sicced on Richmond cops shot and killedPolice said an officer shot and killed a pitbull after two fleeing drug deal suspects sicced it on a second officer, injuring him.
Three officers approached two men suspected of engaging in drug activity when they ran behind a nearby gate. The suspects opened the gate, releasing an 80-pound pitbull that leapt at one officer and latched onto his arm. Another officer opened fire on the animal.
After the pit bull died, officers arrested the two men, whose identities were not released. The bitten officer was taken to Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo and is in good condition with non-life threatening injuries. Sgt. Louie Tirona told reporters:
"In relation to most pitbull bites I've witnessed, this officer came away in pretty decent shape. It could have been a lot worse. It could have been career-ending."
